MIAMI COUNTY — Council on Rural Services …programs for innovative learning, is committed to improving the lives of children and their families. Because of this commitment, they will be joining other organizations across the country in celebrating young children, their teachers and families for “Week of the Young Child” during the week of April 11-15. The theme for the week is “Celebrating our Youngest Learners.”
This week is set aside to recognize that children’s opportunities in early learning and early literacy are everyone’s responsibilities and we must commit our communities’ resources to ensuring that every child has experiences that promote this early learning. We are focusing on the needs of young children and their families and the early childhood programs and services that help to meet those needs.
The local Kids Learning Place in Miami County at Piqua, Troy and West Milton are celebrating young children and their families with planned activities in the centers each day. The week will be planned around Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Ooey Gooey Thursday and Family Friday.
Liz Pfenning, early childhood director, said “High quality prekindergarten programs do improve school readiness with the greatest gains for the highest-risk children. Children need small classes, well-trained teachers, a curriculum aligned with high standards and support services for children and families. All this contributes to a program’s success.”
She added, “But, we all must continue do more to create opportunities that support, encourage and assist in building a better future for all children.”
CORS encourages everyone to celebrate, honor, and raise awareness of the importance of early learning and development in Miami County. By working together, child care centers, Head Start programs, preschools and elementary schools can give young children a great start with better access to high-quality education and learning environments.
