PIQUA — A Piqua woman is facing multiple charges after a theft investigation led Piqua police to her allegedly selling drugs.
Angela I. Asher, 49, of Piqua was charged this week with fifth-degree felony theft, fifth-degree felony forgery, and fifth-degree felony drug trafficking. Asher is accused of stealing a backpack from an unlocked vehicle on the 1100 block of Van Way. The theft was reported on March 31.
In addition to personal items and prescription glasses valued at $200 being in the stolen backpack, a checkbook was also reported stolen. According to Miami County Municipal Court records, a check of $124 was written to and cashed by Angela Asher.
While making attempts to find Asher, she was reportedly caught selling capsules of alleged heroin near the old Piqua Motel on the 8400 block of North County Road 25-A on Monday.
Asher later admitted to the theft, stating she took the checkbook out of the backpack before throwing the bag into a dumpster. “She advised she wrote and cashed the check to purchase heroin,” according to court records.
Asher was arraigned on Tuesday and released on her own recognizance. A preliminary hearing for Asher is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13.
