MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Commissioners approved emergency road repairs at their meeting Tuesday.
The commissioners approved the emergency replacement of a failing culvert on Stichter Road, which is located just south of Penny Road. The roadway has been closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.
According to Paul Huelskamp, Miami County Engineer, the culvert is in need of replacement due to a hole forming in the berm.
“Water comes through there fairly quickly, that’s one of the reasons why we’ve got such erosion out there,” Huelskamp said.
The existing culvert will be removed and replaced with a 72-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe. Repairs made to the culvert in the past were unsuccessful, Huelskamp said.
The Engineer’s Office has requested quotes for the replacement project.
“As soon we can get those quotes back, we’ll proceed with the work,” Huelskamp added.
In other business, the commissioners signed a grant award agreement on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office. The $11,839 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety will be used to purchase eight prisoner containment systems for the department’s cruisers.
The commissioners also signed an audit engagement letter with James G. Zupka, CPA, for the period between Dec. 31, 2015, and Dec. 31, 2019. The Auditor of State’s Office awarded the contract to audit Miami County to James G. Zupka, CPA, on Nov. 12, 2015.
