CASSTOWN — Miami East High School students are showing us all “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” this weekend.

The play opened Thursday night with performances at 7 p.m. today and Saturday evening.

Tickets are $10 reserved and $8 general admission and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the Miami East High School office at 335-7070.

This musical follows the path of one man, J. Pierrepont Finch from window washer with a self-help book to top executive at World Wide Wickets. Finch will be played by senior Nathan Teeters who is no stranger to the stage.

Teeters said he is excited to present the comedy to the audience after child-centric presentations such as Mary Poppins and Seussical the last two years.

“It’s much more satirical, much more comical and comedy driven so it’s a lot different than all the ones I’ve done before,” Teeters said.

Teeters began participating in the school’s play his sophomore year and has enjoyed his experience under the bright lights.

“There’s nothing really like it. I’m looking forward to the laughs and the audience feeding off of that energy that the audience gives — it’s great,” Teeters said.

Two secretaries at the company, Rosemary (Miranda Rike) and Smitty (Megan Pettit), amuse the audience and tug at its heartstrings with trials and tribulations in the office, with everything from a company romance to an empty coffee pot at break time.

“I play the funny, go-lucky character that everyone is kind of annoyed all the time so I’m excited to get some laughs out of it,” said Pettit, who is a senior.

“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” features Cole Garrett as the boss, J.B. Biggley.

“It’s always a really good time to go out there and act for people,” Garrett shared. “It’s the first time we’ve actually done a comedy … and you get to have more fun with it.”

Garrett has been part of the school’s productions since his freshmen year and is looking forward to his senior year production.

“You just feel more comfortable on stage every year — you go out and have a good time and it’s about getting a laugh which is always a good time and experience — you experience a new show every night you perform,” Garrett said.

Ethan Remy, senior, plays business executive Bert Bratt and will make his stage debut this weekend.

“I’m not as scared to be in front of an audience as I thought I would be,” Remy shared right before his very first dress rehearsal. “This is way out of my comfort zone, but there’s a sense of that this is kind of cool to do.”

Senior Carla Robinson also will make her stage debut as part of the play’s ensemble. Robinson shared how she wanted to try out for the play to have fun and experience the joy of acting.

“I’ve liked everything about doing this play. It doesn’t matter how late you start, you’ll have fun along the way,” she shared.

The production is directed by Krissy Hartman, assistant director Kevin Brown, choreographer Paul Smith, pianist Ken DeWeese and orchestra director Scottie Moore.

Biggley); Hannah Carpenter — Toynbee/Mathews; Marie Cook — ensemble; Haley Demmitt – Mrs. Johnson/Wicket Girl; Cole Garrett – J.B.
