MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Gee sentenced Steven A. Bixler, 32, of Piqua, to serve two years in prison for third-degree felony robbery in Miami County Common Pleas on Tuesday.

Judge Gee noted the emotional and psychological harm the cashier suffered following the incident, in which Bixler wielded a knife before robbing the Spring Thru Drive Thru last December.

According to Piqua police reports, Bixler entered the business, brandished a knife, and demanded money before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. An arrest warrant for Bixler was filed in early January, and Bixler was caught in Hardin County.

“This could be a life-altering experience for someone. That young lady didn’t know what you were going to do…,” Gee said. “While you’d like to forget this event, she’ll never forget this event.”

Bixler also was sentenced to serve 11 months for a fifth-degree felony drug trafficking charge, which will be served concurrently with the two-year prison term for the robbery. He will serve three years of mandatory post-release control and had his license suspended for a year. He received 51 days of jail credit.

Prior to his sentencing, Bixler said, “I respect the court and accept responsibility for my actions.”

Bixler was ordered to pay restitution to the Spring Thru Drive Thru and court costs.

Bixler’s sentence was part of a joint plea agreement with the state. The joint recommendation amended Bixler’s previous charge of first-degree felony aggravated robbery down to a third-degree felony. The agreement also recommended for Bixler to serve 24 months in prison for this charge to run concurrently with the separate third-degree felony trafficking in drugs charge that Bixler received community control for last summer.
