PIQUA — Last year’s final concert opener, Me vs Gravity, will be returning to Piqua as part of the Rock Piqua! Unplugged Series. The free Unplugged Series takes place the first Thursday of the month at the Piqua Community Farmer’s Market. As with the Riverfront Concert Series, the Rock Piqua! Unplugged Series is brought to Piqua through a partnership with Piqua Arts Council and Mainstreet Piqua.

“We’re really excited to have Me vs Gravity back again. Last year at Rock Piqua’s Riverfront Concert Series, he sang on the tour bus with some of his younger fans and we’re hoping there will be plenty of people there to take part in this concert,” said Piqua Arts Council’s Executive Director Jordan Knepper. “Me vs Gravity is really only one person. Zach Nelson is the whole group. He entered a battle of the bands competition and they required an actual band name, so he came up with Me vs Gravity.”

Every since that contest, Nelson, a Tipp City native, has been performing under the name. Upon being accepted to the prestigious Berkley College of Music in Boston, he self-produced and released the “Me Vs Gravity EP, “ along with a music video for this first single, “Walls.” During this time, Nelson worked on his live show in the Boston subway, playing nearly every weekend to crowds of all ages. His subway performances caught the attention of Disney star Debby Ryan, who helped promote his YouTube channel, as well as the attention of Michael Bivins (manager of Boyz II Men) and rep from Atlantic Records. Atlantic flew him out to Chicago to record the “Begin Ep” with Tom Schleiter, producer of bands like 5 Seconds to Summer and New Politics, in Johnny K’s legendary Groovemaster Studios. Another self-produced music video was shot for “Begin,” which helped grow the online presences of Me vs Gravity to over 1 million views on YouTube and over 20,0000 fans across social media. These fans, self-dubbed the “Graviteam” have bought Me vs Gravity shirts, music, bracelets, and more form nearly all 50 states in the U.S. and over 20 countries worldwide. Nelson has performed in countless venues, from Dunkin Donuts Arena in Providence, to the Fillmore at Miami Beach, to Perkins School for the Blind in Boston. He also performed in the top 100 on season 4 of The Voice on NVC and season 2 of The X Factor on FOX. He loves to write and produce for upcoming artists, and he is currently writing songs for this next Me vs Gravity release.

“Me vs Gravity isn’t just a name, it’s my reminder,” Nelson said, “to never stop pushing to the top.”

Zach will be performing in Canal Place (behind Second Story Gallery and Can’t Stop Running Co.) from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 2 and is free to attend.
