PIQUA — The city of Piqua Piqua will be holding a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Hearing on Friday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. The public hearing is required as part of the process for the city of Piqua to apply for additional CDBG funding up an above their normal annual allocation of $75,000.
The city is eligible for up to $2.6 million in 2016 in funding areas such as Neighborhood Revitalization, Economic Development Public Infrastructure, Downtown Revitalization, Critical Infrastructure, Fair Housing, and Discretionary Grants. These grant programs can fund a broad range of activities including street and sidewalk improvements, water supply, sanitary and storm sewer improvements, demolition of unsafe structures, housing rehabilitation, and improvements to neighborhood facilities. However, the grant programs are competitive and one of the key factors in being awarded competitive points is how many citizens attend the public hearing.
Last year, the city had a turnout of almost 100 citizens, which resulted in the city of Piqua being awarded an additional $550,000.
The public is encouraged to attend.
The meeting will take place in commission chambers on the second floor of the municipal building located at 201 W. Water St. in Piqua.
