PIQUA – A two-vehicle crash on McKinley Ave. at the intersection of Fairfax Ave. left one man injured on Thursday.
Emergency crews were called to the crash around 6:30 p.m. and arrived to find the driver of a car lying injured on the sidewalk. The other driver sustained no apparent injuries.
Lt. Jason Preston of the Piqua Police Department said that a car driven by Donny Pritchett, 33, was stopped at the intersection when a pickup truck driven by Kirby King, 41, failed to stop and struck Pritchett’s vehicle from the rear.
Preston said that King was apparently driving near the posted speed limit but did not see the stopped vehicle. There were no skid marks, indicating that King’s vehicle did not have the brakes applied before impact.
The impact was almost explosive in nature, sending debris from Pritchett’s vehicle over a wide area.
Pritchett was transported by Piqua medics to Upper Valley Medical Center and immediately transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.
King was cited at the scene for an Assured Clear Distance violation. Preston said that neither alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
Officials at Miami Valley Hospital told police that Pritchett’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
