PIQUA — The Piqua Police Department caught a Piqua resident running through the Miami Valley Centre Mall’s parking lot after allegedly stealing from multiple stores in the mall earlier this week.
A Buckle employee pursued Acacia N. Deeter, 23, of Piqua, after Deeter was allegedly caught removing security tags from items in Buckle, according to Miami County Municipal Court records. Deeter stopped running after an officer told her to stop.
Deeter was taken into custody and reportedly found with merchandise from Elder Beerman, Shoe Sensation, and Buckle. Deeter was allegedly hiding stolen clothing under her own clothing, such as “wearing jeans under her yoga pants,” according to court records. The jeans reportedly still had a Buckle price tag on it. Her shirt also had a Buckle price tag on it.
Deeter also reportedly admitted to trying to conceal items under her clothing while at Maurices, but gave the merchandise back after being approached by an employee.
An employee at Buckle stated that she had become suspicious of Deeter after she and two other individuals went into the changing room with four to five items but exited with only two to three items.
According court records, the total value of stolen Buckle clothing was $156.40. The total value of stolen Shoe Sensation items was $67.19. The total value of stolen Elder Beerman items was $83. The total value of damaged Buckle clothing was $201.95.
Deeter was charged with five counts of first-degree misdemeanor theft, second-degree misdemeanor criminal damaging, and first-degree misdemeanor possession of criminal tools.
Deeter is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on $6,500 bond. A hearing is scheduled for her on March 16.
