MIAMI COUNTY — On Friday, a Troy man was arraigned in Miami County Municipal Court on felony drug charges after law enforcement officials raided a marijuana growing operation inside a Troy apartment on Thursday.

Robert Chura III, 28, of Troy, was arraigned on charges including fifth degree felony trafficking drugs, third degree felony drug manufacturing and cultivation, third degree felony assembly of chemicals for the manufacturing of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Miami County Municipal Court Judge Gary Nasal set Chura’s bond at $105,000 for all charges. Chura’s preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 14.

“The search was a culmination of a three-month investigation by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office detectives,” Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said. “Our detectives worked with RANGE Task Force of Montgomery County, which also searched a home in Dayton. They found mature marijuana plants and fresh product at that location.”

Duchak said the investigation is on-going. No arrests were made at the Dayton home.

According to the search warrant, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of Chura’s apartment at 1140 Stephenson Drive, Apt. C, in Troy, where a small marijuana growing operation was reportedly located. The search warrant also stated a home located in the 1800 block of Pinecrest Drive in Dayton was raided. The Dayton home reportedly housed a “larger marijuana growing operation” as part of the investigation.

According to the search warrant, police seized a safe, four bags of suspected marijuana, $510 cash, digital scales, growing equipment, potting soil and two chocolate brownies from the Troy apartment.

Chura remains in the Miami County Jail.
