TROY — Often when customers visit Towne Valley Gifts, they’ll assume that Logan Eshelman is helping his mother at her store.

“There’s quite a few people that come in and talk to Mom as if she owns the store. People will say, ‘Oh, she’s got such nice stuff in here.’ But really, I own it, it’s me,” Eshelman said laughing.

He understands why people would think that, he looks younger than a lot of people expect a business owner to be.

For Eshelman, a business major at Edison Community College, opening his own gift shop is a dream come true.

“It’s always been a passion of mine to go into owning my own business,” the Covington resident explained. His mother Brenda has been very supportive of his new business venture, he said.

The shelves are stocked with seasonal items, like snowmen, candles and other home decor. Items will changes frequently and Eshelman plans to have decorations for just about every holiday.

“We vacation a lot to Amish Country, so that’s where the dream was born,” Eshelman said.

Most of the items available at Towne Valley Gifts are from Ohio, many are from Miami County. Eshelman is all about keeping things local, stocking spices from Covington and soaps from Tipp City.

“I want to try to keep it close to home,” Eshelman said.

The shop opened in mid-Decemeber and Eshelman has been enjoying the early days of owning his own business.

“It’s fun and it definitely keeps you busy,” he said. “It’s everything I thought it would be so far.”

Eshelman is also a doTERRA wellness advocate and will be hosting workshops on how to use the essential oils. The store will occasionally have sales on Pampered Chef and other items.

Towne Valley Gifts is located in the Oxford Commons — across the street from the library — on the second floor and is accessed at the building’s rear door. The store is open from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
