PIQUA – Three victims sustained serious injuries in a head-on crash on East U.S. Route 36 just east of Union-Shelby Road on Monday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the location around 1:15 p.m. on the report of a head-on crash with multiple injuries.

Miami County deputies arrived on the scene to find one victim trapped in their vehicle and two others with apparent serious injuries.

Piqua Fire Department medics and Rescue vehicles responded along with Fletcher Fire Department and Johnson/St. Paris rescue squad. A third squad, from Troy Fire Department, provided mutual aide.

CareFlight was requested but was unable to fly due to weather conditions.

Piqua medics on the scene requested that Miami Valley Hospital mobile trauma units respond to Upper Valley Medical Center to possibly transport at least two of the crash victims to Dayton.

Deputies closed U.S. 36 in both directions in order to investigate and, later, clean up the crash scene.

No other information is available at this time.
