MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Board of Elections approved a number of petitions for the spring election happening on March 15 as well as rejected 10 petitions. The most notable rejection was one submitted by Barth A. Snyder of West Milton for the Republican Central Committee in Miami County who submitted the petition in 2013.

“That’s a new one,” board member Jose Lopez said.

“All the signatures are from 2013,” board member Bob Huffman said while looking over her petition. “She circulated this two and a half years ago.”

“The dates are wrong,” Lopez said. The petitioner incorrectly wrote May 6, 2014, as the date for the election.

Huffman stated that while they have approved petitions that had the wrong day or year “many times in the past,” he did not recall a time where they approved a petition where the entire date was wrong.

“She has the wrong date, the wrong month, and the wrong year,” Huffman said.

The board rejected the petition for not being in substantial compliance due to the incorrect election date written on the petition.
