PIQUA — A small garage fire early Saturday morning led to Piqua police arresting one man for arson.
Piqua police and the Piqua Fire Department responded to the fire on the 800 block of Boal Avenue at 1 a.m. According to Deputy Chief Tom Steiner with the Piqua Police Department, a witness saw Richard T. Bryant Jr., 39, of Piqua, allegedly setting fire to the garage on purpose using lighter fluid.
“We don’t have a motive for why he did it,” Steiner said.
The garage reportedly belonged to people Bryant knew.
“It was a small fire,” Steiner said.
There was some damage to the siding and roof of the garage estimated to cost over $3,000, according to Piqua police reports. There were no reported injuries.
Bryant was charged with fourth-degree felony arson on Saturday, and he was arraigned on Monday for the charge. He is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on $10,000 cash-only bond.
