Piqua police reports highlights

PIQUA — The following are highlights from the Piqua police reports. All information is provided by Piqua police reports.

FRAUD: A complainant on the 900 block of Broadway stated that her credit card was stolen and used at several locations on Nov. 30 at 9:30 a.m.

THEFT: A complainant stated that his backpack was stolen from his vehicle overnight between Nov. 29-30 on the 500 block of Robinson Avenue.

There was a report of a theft of items from a shopping cart at Walmart on Nov. 30 at 4:20 p.m.

A cell phone was reported stolen at the Piqua High School on Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. The complainant stated a teacher had taken it earlier in the day and the teacher stated she believed another student had taken it.

There was a report of a theft occurring at Walmart on Dec. 1 at 5:50 p.m. The alleged suspect reportedly concealed store merchandise in a trash can without making any attempts to pay for it.

An adult male allegedly stole money from another person’s wallet at the Bent Tree Apartments on Dec. 1 between 6-6:20 p.m. Lawrence L. Beechler, Jr., 50, of Piqua was charged with first-degree misdemeanor theft in connection with this incident.

Two males reportedly stole beer from the Piqua Beverage Center on High Street on Dec. 1 at 7:50 p.m.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Subjects were reportedly causing problems when a property owner was attempting to move the subjects out of his rental due to an eviction on the 300 block of S. Wayne Street on Nov. 30 at 1:20 p.m. The subjects were warned for disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.

There was a report of an assault in the area of Commercial and Young Streets on Dec. 1 at 2:14 a.m. The victim had no apparent injuries and did not pursue charges. An adult male left for the evening and was reportedly warned for telecommunications harassment.

SEARCH WARRANT: Piqua police executed a search warrant on a garage on the 200 block of S. Main Street on Nov. 28 at 11:53 p.m. The warrant was to search for drugs and stolen property.

SUSPICIOUS: A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was driving up and down Boone Street on Nov. 30 at 4:30 p.m. The area was checked, and nothing was reportedly found.

There was a report of subjects yelling in the street on the 500 block of S. Downing Street on Nov. 30 at 10:13 p.m. The area was checked, and the subjects were gone prior to officer arrival.

SEX OFFENSE: The original report was a report for a disturbance on Brook Street at Nov. 30 at 7:45 p.m. “Upon arrival one half advised they were at the residence to confront the other party regarding a sex [offense] involving their juvenile children,” according to police reports.

ANIMAL COMPLAINT: There was a report of barking dogs on the 100 block of Cleveland Street on Nov. 30 at 8:30 p.m. The complainant stated the tenants had been in the process of moving out for a week and that the complainant had not seen the tenants in 24 hours. According to police reports, the residence appeared to be vacant. The officer attempted to contact the tenants, but the call went straight to voicemail. The officer sent a copy of the report to animal control for further review.

DISTURBANCE: There was a report of a male and female having an argument and the male allegedly setting the grass on fire on the 8700 block of Sherry Drive on Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. An officer spoke with the male and female who stated there was no argument and that the male was burning property that had been brought back to him by an ex-girlfriend.

A complainant stated that his step-son had made threats of physical violence toward him on Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. Richard J. Walker, Jr., 24, of Piqua was charged with second-degree misdemeanor domestic violence in connection with this incident.

A female reportedly admitted to slapping her boyfriend at the Colonial Terrace Apartments on Dec. 2 at 12 a.m. Emily K. Kessler, 24, of Piqua was charged with first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence in connection with this incident.

BURGLARY: There was a report three guitars stolen from a residence on the 100 block of E. Grant Street on Dec. 1 12:16 p.m.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE: Kevin L. Nill, 37, of Piqua was charged with minor misdemeanor criminal damaging on Nov. 3 at 11:19 a.m.

A caller stated that someone had slashed the tires on her vehicle on the 700 block of Vine Street on Dec. 1 at 1 p.m.

DUI ALCOHOL: A female was stopped for driving in the middle of the roadway in the area of S. Roosevelt Avenue and South Street on Dec. 2 at 12:14 a.m. It was reportedly found to be an OVI. Carla S. Swigert, 36, of Piqua was charged with first-degree misdemeanor OVI-breath .17 and above in connection with this incident.
