MIAMI COUNTY — On Monday, former educator and high school principal Allen E. Smith, 68, of West Milton, entered a plea of no contest to seven felony counts, including two counts of second- and fifth-degree felony illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material in Miami County Common Pleas Court.

The charges also include five counts of fourth degree felony pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. Miami County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Gee set Smith’s sentencing date for Jan. 25.

The court found him guilty on all seven counts.

As part of a plea agreement with the state, Smith will not face any additional charges related to the case. Smith will also be classified as a Tier 2 sex offender and must register his address every 180 days for the next 25 years. He will also be ordered to not reside within 1,000 feet of a school or preschool building.

Smith’s potential prison sentence on all counts is 16 1/2 years if they are run consecutively, or eight years maximum if they are to be served concurrently. Smith’s bond on all counts remains at $250,000 cash bond.

Smith is a former educator, most recently as a curriculum supervisor with the Miami County Education Service Center where he worked with county administrators, and serving as principal of Milton-Union High School from 1992-2001. He also was employed by the Covington Exempted Village District in the 1980s.

Troy Police began investigating Smith’s actions after the mother of a 14-year-old girl reportedly found messages on a cell phone between Smith and the minor last September.
