Mills caught, arraigned in connection with shooting

PIQUA — Wanted in connection with the shooting that occurred in the Shawnee neighborhood on Nov. 14, Cody A. Mills, 23, of Piqua was arrested and arraigned on Friday, Nov. 20. Mills has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated burglary and second-degree felonious assault.

Mills is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Mills on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

On Nov. 14, Piqua police were called to 628 Second St. just after 9:30 p.m. on the report of a subject threatening to shoot someone. According to previous statements from the Piqua Police Department, two suspects allegedly entered the home and one of them pulled a gun at one point.

A 16-year-old male, a resident in the home, reportedly reached for the gun. It then discharged, hitting the young man in the hand. He was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center before being treated and later released.

Mills is alleged to be the accomplice of James W. Turner, 40, of Troy, who is believed to have been the main assailant in that incident. Turner was arrested on Nov. 15 for first-degree felony aggravated burglary and second-degree felonious assault. He is currently incarcerated at the Miami County Jail on a total of $150,000 bond. The following day on Nov. 16, detectives arrested Angel E. Boyer, 36, of 628 Second St.

Boyer also is incarcerated at the Miami County Jail on a total of $12,500 bond. She has been charged with fifth-degree felony permitting drug abuse, second-degree misdemeanor obstructing official business, third-degree felony tampering with evidence, and fourth-degree felony corrupting another with drugs.

Mills is also a person of interest for questioning regarding several other theft/burglary-related investigations over the past month or so. He was last arrested by the Piqua Police Department on Nov. 10, 2014, on theft-related warrants. He was found in an attic at 822 Park Ave. in that instance. He was incarcerated from that date until Sept. 2, 2015.
