Piqua to celebrate Holiday Open House


PIQUA — Independently owned businesses from throughout the community are coming together this weekend to participate in the Piqua Community Holiday Open House. The event is intended to give residents from Piqua and beyond the opportunity to see all the new merchandise available for the Christmas season and to encourage residents to think about shopping locally for their unique gift items.

Most of the businesses participating in the Open House weekend are located in downtown Piqua, but Allisten Manor’s Flower Box and Gerlach’s Flowers by Sharron, both on Washington Avenue, are also participating. Most of the businesses participating will already be festively decorated for the holidays in preparation for the Holiday Open House weekend.

Gerlach’s Flowers by Sharron is filled to overflowing with floral arrangements, gifts, wreaths and new Thomas Kincade products. For the Holiday Open House, they will have 20 percent off purchases of $20 or more of Christmas and holiday items.

Allisten Manor’s Flower Box is known for its unique floral designs. They have everything from the traditional to the whimsical and the contemporary along with a full line of Rothschild products. During the Holiday Open House weekend they will be offering 20 percent off Christmas merchandise.

The Tapestry Angel, located at 516 Spring St., is a one-stop shop for cross-stitch charts and supplies and is stocked with lots of new Christmas charts. The store can also handle all your framing needs and in addition to a great selection of quality cross-stitch and needle point supplies, The Tapestry Angel also carries stained glass ornaments and wine toppers by Sue’s Stained Glass.

Barclay’s Men’s-Women’s Clothiers has a great selection of men’s and big and tall men’s suits, sports coats and sportswear plus new ladies clothing lines exclusive to specialty boutiques. The store has exciting contemporary looks as well as gift items for teens and ladies. During the Holiday Open House weekend, Barclay’s will be offering all Vera Bradley items at 20 percent off. The Men’s sportswear collections of Tommy Bahama, Southern Tide and Alex Canon will also be 20 percent off.

Joe Thoma Jewelry, located next to Barclay’s at 312 N. Main St., has a huge selection of beautiful jewelry and gift items. They also have watches and professional engraving services with a fast turn-around.

Across the street, downtown Piqua’s newest retailer, Harvest Pantry Bulk Foods not only has many items for holiday baking but also gift cards and various size gift bags that can be filled with products and given as gifts. Be sure to check out their deli with fresh meats and cheeses and order ahead for a beautiful meat or cheese tray for holiday parties and family gatherings. Harvest Pantry Bulk Foods is located at 325 N. Main St.

Can’t Stop Running Co., located at 321 N. Main St., has all your walking and running needs as well as gift cards for the walkers and runners in your life. Their full selection of shoes, running gear, socks and nutritional products will meet the needs of those with an active lifestyle.

Both of Downtown Piqua’s antique stores, Ken-Mar Antiques and Apple Tree Gallery, are participating in the Holiday Open House. Ken-Mar, located at 322 N. Main St., has 37 dealers and in addition to antiques, they offer handmade greeting cards and has one dealer who specializes in silk Christmas wreaths and baskets.

Apple Tree Gallery, at 405 N. Main St., has a selection of antiques including antique glass and linens and they also have half the store dedicated to Christmas decorations and specifically blown glass ornaments and Christmas décor items.

Readmore’s Hallmark, at 430 N. Main St., has an awesome selection of gifts for children of all ages as well as the Peanuts light show, enchanted wall ant of course a vast selection of Hallmark keepsake ornaments, musical plush toys and other Hallmark gifts. Be sure to check out their large selection of adult coloring books. During the Open House weekend they will have register-to-win opportunities throughout the store and refreshments.

Winans Chocolates and Coffees has their new location at 310 Spring St. all dressed for Christmas and during the Holiday Open House weekend, they will be having their semi-annual coffee sale, which includes a buy-one get one half price on all their popular coffee bean flavors.

Baby Bump, 415 N. Main St., has a variety of unique gift items for young children as well as gently used clothing. Other gift ideas at the Baby Bump store include stocking stuffers, books, wooden toys and amber bracelets. During the Holiday Open House weekend they will be offering a 20 percent off sale.

Miami County AAA is also participating in the Open House and they have a variety of children’s luggage, carry-on luggage, road kits, comfort neck pillows and other travel items. During the Open House weekend they will be waiving the enrolment fee on any new AAA gift memberships and offering one free associate membership for a second member in a household.

Any purchases of $10 or more made from participating businesses during the Holiday Open House weekend are eligible for a ticket for the Win the Window Contest. All the participating businesses have donated an item that is on display at 409 N. Main St., and for every $10 you spend during the weekend, you will receive a ticket to Win the Window. The drawing for the contest will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
