PIQUA — Police are investigating a Saturday evening shooting in the Shawnee neighborhood.

Police were called to 628 Second St. just after 9:30 on the report of a subject threatening to shoot someone.

Officers arrived minutes later and immediately called for a medic for a gunshot victim. Officers had a difficult time gathering initial information due to subjects at the address being hysterical.

Lt. Marcos Rodriguez of the Piqua Police Department said, “One person here was shot. The injury does not appear to be life-threatening. He was transported for medical attention.”

“Two suspects entered the home,” said Lt. Jason Preston. “At some point, one of them pulled a gun.” A 16-year-old male, a resident in the home, reportedly reached for the gun. It then discharged, hitting the young man in the hand.

A .38 caliber revolver was recovered at the scene. Preston confirmed that police know the identities of, and are actively searching for, two suspects in the shooting, but have not yet released their names.

The investigation is ongoing as police search for the suspects.
