Grants awarded for fall

PIQUA — The Board of Directors and Distribution Committee of the Piqua Community Foundation recently allocated more than $41,900 to be distributed to local programs and projects. At the foundation trustees’ annual meeting in November, grants were awarded to:

Eagles’ Wings Stable, Inc. — to enable instructors to attend the international PATH conference in Cleveland

Edison Community College — Two grants to purchase shades for the windows in the nursing suites and playground equipment for the child development department

Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties — for building/renovation projects in Piqua

L.I.G.H.T.S. (Ladies in God’s Hands Together Serving) – to provide a freezer for food storage

Lockington United Methodist Church — to assist in purchasing food for their monthly “God’s Grocery” food distribution to needy families

Miami County Dental Clinic — to provide educational DVDs and supplies for use with dental patients

Miami County YMCA — to support development of a toddler/infant playground

Piqua Catholic School — to provide iPads for reading instruction

Piqua City Schools — to provide a camera for the Piqua Junior High School yearbook

Piqua High School Alumni Band — for three euphoniums for the PHS Marching Band

Upper Valley Career Center — to provide certification documents for graduates in Child Development

Mini-grants were awarded to:

His Hands Extended Sanctuary — to support their trap, neuter and release project for feral cats in Piqua

Lehman Catholic High School — to fund Science Olympiad activities

Piqua Catholic School — to extend the life of musical instruments by air conditioning the music room

Piqua City Schools – Springcreek Elementary — Two grants to provide Social Studies Weekly magazines and equipment for the Presidential Physical Fitness awards
