PIQUA — A community education forum featuring state and local issues and candidates in the November election affecting Piqua area residents will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the YWCA Piqua. The evening is organized by the YWCA Public Policy Committee. Interested citizens are invited to attend the forum which is free and open to the public.
This event will feature invited candidates with opposition who are running in the Nov. 3 General Election, including:
• Piqua City Commission 1st ward: Nicholas Alexander and John Martin
• Piqua City Commission 5th ward: Kathryn Hinds and Gary Koenig
• Piqua City Mayor: Kathryn Hinds and Gary Koenig.
Three local issues that will be on the ballot are all renewal levies. They are Piqua Public Library (Jim Oda), Miami Country Bridges (Paul Huelskamp) and Riverside Developmental Disabilities (Brian Green).
There are also several state issues on the ballot and the forum will include the pros and cons for each issue. There will be no discussion on state issues.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Nanci McMaken, member of the YWCA Public Policy Committee, will serve as moderator. Written questions from the audience will be accepted and presented to the candidates and issue representative by the moderator.
The forum will be broadcast live by WPTW (1570 AM) and will also be taped for later broadcast by WOTVC (Channel 5).
