July 31

FIELD DAMAGE: The owner of a farm field in the 5000 block of State Route 721, Laura, reported that there were juveniles in his field knocking over corn to make a maze. He said that he did not wish to pursue charges at this time and only wanted a deputy to talk with them. The owner provided the deputy with the names of the two listed juveniles. The deputy was able to talk with them about this report. They were advised to stay out of the fields and to tell their friends the same. They said that they understood and would stay out of the field.

DUS: A deputy was dispatched to the area of State Route 571 and S. Rangeline Road, West Milton, on a injury accident. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the driver identified as, Michael Farrell IV. Michael was the driver of the Chevy S-10. The deputy asked Michael for his driver’s license and Michael handed the officer an identification card. The officer asked Michael if he had a driver’s license and he stated no it was suspended. The deputy ran Michael through LEADS and the return came back that Michael had an administrative license suspension for refusal. Michael was cited for driving under suspension and given his copy of the citation. Michael was released to a valid driver.

INMATE OUTBURST: It was reported that inmate Dustin Connor had attempted to strangle himself with a piece of his uniform that he had rip off. He was not successful and as a result he was placed on suicide watch without further incident. A few hours later, a deputy was dispatched to the jail on a report of an assault on a corrections officer. Upon arrival, Lt. Tom Wheeler spoke to Sgt. Upham in the jail. She advised that Corrections Officer Hodges had let inmate Dustin Connor out to use the phone. After Mr. Connor used the phone he stated, ” I don’t belong here.” They advised that Mr. Connor then refused to go back into his cell and started fighting them. C.O. Hodges advised he was punched in the ribs by Mr. Connor several times. Sgt. Upham advised when she arrived they were still fighting. She assisted C.O. Hodges getting Mr. Connor back to his cell. Mr. Connor is being charged with assault on an officer.

Aug. 1

THEFT: A deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of N. Main St. Pleasant Hill, in reference to a theft incident.

JUVENILES CHUCK CORN AT CRUISER: Deputies were dispatched to the 8700 block of Horseshoe Bend Road, Union Twp. on the report of a suspicious male knocking on the front door of the residence. On the way to the scene, several ears of corn were thrown from a corn field into the road in front of a sheriff’s cruiser. This was just down the road from the incident. The deputies announced their presence and told the subjects to come out and they did. There were eight juveniles in all. They were all identified and the deputies contacted their parents. They admitted to knocking on the door at the reporting party’s residence. The juveniles were warned for curfew and spoken to about their actions. They were turned over to their parents.

Aug. 2

OVI: Officers responded to the area of Buckneck Rd. and W. US RT 36, Newberry Township, on a suspicious complaint. Brittany Whalen advised dispatch that her tire had blew and she was stuck on Buckneck Rd. at the curve. After officers arrived they identified Brittany Whalen and her boyfriend Matthew D Baker who were both intoxicated. After further investigation Matthew was found to be the driver and Brittany was the passenger. They were involved in an accident in front of 9244 W. US RT 36. Matthew was taken into custody for OVI and Brittany was charged with underage consumption.

THEFT: A deputy spoke to Austin Hatfield who stated that he and his two friends had money taken from their locker at the Troy YMCA. They were advised to put a lock on their lockers if they have valuables that they don’t want to get stolen. There are no leads or suspects at this time.
