PIQUA — A semi fire closed both northbound lanes of I-75 near Piqua on Tuesday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call about the fire around 5:50 a.m. When troopers arrived, they found a semi tractor fully involved in flames approximately one-half mile south of U.S. 36 in Piqua, near the 82-mile marker.

It took crews from Piqua and Fletcher fire departments more than half an hour to extinguish the fire, after which another issue arose, as some of the water froze on the road. ODOT dispatched a truck to salt the road to reduce the risk of ice.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been released, although the Ohio State Highway Patrol did say the blaze started in the engine area.
