TROY – A man and a woman are in the Miami County Jail after allegedly stealing items from a man at the Royal Inn on Brukner Drive on Friday evening.

Troy police were dispatched to the Royal Inn just before 9 p.m. on the report of an armed robbery.

As officers were enroute to the scene further reports were received that the suspects were fleeing on foot across West Market Street toward South Dorset.

Officers, along with units from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, located the suspects within minutes at Motel 6 on South Dorset. Both were taken into custody without incident.

Although the initial call to Miami County 911 came in as an armed robbery, Sgt. Zac Mumford of the Troy Police Department said, “This wasn’t an armed robbery. It was just a theft. Some acquaintances were in a motel room and somebody took some belongings of one of the individuals.”

Both individuals were placed under arrest and transported to the Miami County Jail by Troy Police.

Their names have not yet been released.

The incident is still under investigation by Troy Police.
