STAUNTON TOWNSHIP – An early morning crash claimed one life on Thursday.
Joseph A. Granlund, 36, of Fletcher, died in the crash.
Miami County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Troy Fire Department medics and firefighters responded to the 300 block of Eldean Road, near Farver Road on the report of a roll-over crash with an ejection, just after 3 a.m.
CareFlight was briefly put on standby but when medics arrived they relayed for CareFlight to stand down.
Granlund was eastbound on Eldean Road when he apparently lost control of his pickup truck, went off the right side of the road, over-corrected, then went off the left side, rolling the vehicle, before landing on its wheels. Granlund, who was apparently not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, landing some 20-30 feet from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies believe that speed and road conditions to be contributing factors in the crash. Alcohol may have also played a part in the crash but officials are waiting on toxicology reports before making that determination.
Eldean Road, between County Road 25A and Piqua-Troy Road was closed during the investigation. The road is now re-opened.
The crash remains under investigation by Miami County deputies.
