DAR to celebrate birthday

PIQUA — In honor of the 126th birthday of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Piqua-Lewis Boyer chapter will meet Tuesday, Oct. 11 for a day of “Service to America” at the Hobart Community Kitchen in Troy located at 25 N. Mulberry St.

The DAR, founded on Oct. 11, 1890, and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education for children.

The objectives of the organization are: Historical — to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence; Educational – to carry out the injunction of Washington in his farewell address to the American people, “to promote, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge, thus developing an enlightened public opinion. …” and Patriotic — to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all blessings of liberty.

To help celebrate the 126th birthday of the DAR, the Piqua-Lewis Boyer chapter will have its first fundraiser at Marion’s Piazza, 1270 Experiment Farm Road, Troy. A percentage of the evening’s profits will go to the chapter when a flier is presented. To receive a flier, email [email protected]
