BROWN TOWNSHIP — Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies have confirmed that a toddler has died after being struck by a vehicle on their family property.
Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said that Marcus K. Bowers, 23 months, died at the scene of the tragic accident on Sunday afternoon.
Duchak said that officers were dispatched to 9345 N. State Route 589 at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on the report of a 2-year-old struck by a vehicle.
CareFlight was initially sent enroute but cancelled when it was determined that the youngster was deceased at the scene.
The child reportedly tried to follow a family member as they were leaving the home and the family member did not see the child as he ran into the path of the vehicle, described by Duchak as “a large 4-by-4.” The incident happened in a driveway at the residence.
“This is a very tragic accident and our sympathies go out to family and friends,” Duchak said.
The name of the family member and their relationship to the victim are not being released at this time.
County Coroner Dr. Bill Ginn requested that the child be transported to the Montgomery County Morgue.
