MIAMI COUNTY — Many buyers teamed up Wednesday to drive the sales up at the 2016 Miami County Fair Sale of Champions.

US Bank’s Jennifer Honeyman was one of hundreds of buyers who supported the fair. Honeyman said it was her 10th year attending the annual junior livestock auction.

“We come out every year. It’s a great project for the kids. At US Bank, we truly believe in supporting our community, especially me being a Kiwanian, supporting kids is right up my alley, which is why we are here,” Honeyman said.

Dale and Nancy Stager, owners of Select Arc. Inc., bought both Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Steers at the sale.

“For the kids, I know how hard it is to raise a good (market steer),” Stager said. “They are losing money on every one of them.”

Tipp City’s Weston Hodge, 17, will make the Miami County Fair’s history books for the sale of the first-ever market duck project, which he exhibited and won the grand champion prize.

“It was something new, I’ve never raised market ducks before. I’ve had chickens before but, I like trying new things and it seemed fun to me,” said Hodge before the annual Sale of Champions on Wednesday. “I was shocked because I never had raised ducks before this so I didn’t really expect to win. It was really exciting.”

Morgan Kimmel was the first on the auction block with her Grand Champion Market Chicken.

“I’ll pay my mom back for the feed and put the rest in my bank account,” DiNardo said.

The Miami County Fair’s general livestock auction begins Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
