PIQUA — Steven Walker, a former workshop instructor for Piqua Arts Council, is best known for his rural landscape paintings and is quickly being recognized for both his nocturne series and his everyday life series of oil paintings.
Walker has won numerous awards across the country, including Best of Show at the Richeson 75 Small Work Show, the Phillip B Meggs Design Award and a first place at the Annual Piqua Fine Art Exhibition.
“I met Steven a few years ago and since then he’s become one of the artists I want to have in my collection more than just about any others,” said PAC Executive Director Jordan Knepper. “Steven’s work is so full of energy. Most painters work slowly, but Steven just dives right in and attacks the canvas.”
Walker doesn’t actually use canvas very often, because of how he paints. If he were to use canvas, he’d more than likely poke holes in the canvas!
For this year’s PAC fundraiser, Steven has donated three paintings on board. They can be found on the PAC Facebook page at www.facebook.com/piquaarts. Bids for the artwork are taken in the comments section and bidding will conclude at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.
For more information on the fundraiser call the arts council at (937) 773-9630 or stop in and see the works in person at 427 N. Main St. weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3p.m.
