PIQUA — The Friends of the Piqua Public Library are excited to present their next event in the 2016 Library Lounge Series, “Around the World.” The fifth stop on the global journey will be “The Good Ole USA!” on Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Piqua Public Library. The event will feature patriotic songs, gospel and bluegrass music, plus stories from Mark Twain and a Native American descendant.

Well-known local vocalist April Grove will open the evening with the national anthem and “America the Beautiful.”

Professional humorist and storyteller Stephen Hollen will bring Mark Twain to life as he impersonates the great American author. With a twinkle in his eye, white suit and that trademark wild hair, you will think Mr. Twain himself is present in our beautiful library. Hollen’s early influences as a humorist arose from his childhood in the hills of Eastern Kentucky and his love for the richness of humorists like Twain and Will Rogers. After dozens of times of being told he looked like Mark Twain, Hollen realized that his path was set.

Tom Jenkins, a retired local teacher and coach with Blackfoot Indian ancestry, will give an entertaining and informative talk about Native Americans of the Miami County and Piqua area.

For your musical entertainment, Rum River Blend, based in Troy and Tipp City, will perform selections of traditional bluegrass and folk songs. Their musicians play guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle, and bill themselves as “Unprofessional Entertainment.” The result is music that will make you want to tap your foot and sing along.

Frankee has made her reputation as one of our area’s most talented gospel singers. You’ll be moved by her beautiful renditions of songs from this classic American musical genre.

Topping the evening off will be apple pie baked by Sue Smith and Joyce Jenkins, and ice cream compliments of Susie’s Big Dipper.

All this fun is free and open to the public, but admission is by ticket only. Tickets are available to the public at the front desk of the library beginning Aug 5. Seating is limited and many of these events are sellouts, so get your tickets early.
