PIQUA — Children are being encouraged to take advantage of summer and get outdoors for fun and play time this weekend. Saturday, July 18, is the Fourth Annual Piqua Activity Day, being held at Lower Fountain Park from 9-10 a.m.

“Our goal this year is get at least 100 children to the park,” said Nathan Burkholder, Piqua city intern.

The event is open to children in preschool through sixth grade. Children who are five years old or younger will play with the preschool group. The activities for the preschool group includes a water relay race, tuff ball, an egg and spoon race, a scavenger hunt, safari, run and jump, a beanbag toss, Simon Says, and tag.

Children who are older than six years old will be placed in the older children groups. The older children activities include a water relay race, an egg and spoon race, tag, Red Rover, kickball, around the world, over and out, hide and seek, and capture the flag. There will also be a healthy snack provided for the participants at no cost.

“It’s just to get children to be activity because play is vital for each child,” Burkholder said.

Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event, or parents can register their children ahead of time at www.piquaactivityday.weebly.com. A printable version of the Emergency Medical Release form can be found there as well, or it can be filled out at the day of the event. The Emergency Medical Release form is required for children to participate in the event.
