PIQUA — A new business has joined the downtown with the goal of providing people affordable options for gently-used products.

Sonny Boy Thrift Store, located at 201 N. Wayne St., features a variety of items, including gently-used clothing, shoes, electronics, hair-styling tools, toys and more.

“There’s good, brand name items,” owner Gary Burns said.

Burns added that he gets many of his items from purchasing storage units on the weekend.

Burns also explained that they take care of the clothing and items sold at the store, including washing the clothes. All the electronics in the store are also tested before they put up for sale to make sure that they work.

“I test everything — everything with a plug,” Burns said.

Burns’ aim is to help people get quality products within their budget.

“I’ve been through struggle my whole life and for people who want nice things, they can find it here for cheap for a nice price,” Burns said.

Burns said that an Aeropostle shirt might sell new for $25 in the store, but people will be able to get them for $4.99 or $3.99 at Sonny Boy Thrift Store. The clothes are also marked with different colored tags, and on Saturdays, it is 50 percent off a certain tag color.

Burns is also working on restoring and opening up a basement at the same location to provide more space and more options for customers.

Burns is originally from Dayton but currently lives in Piqua, where he moved with his family and six children to provide them a good education. Burns is also the owner of Sonny Boy Lawncare.

The hours for Sonny Boy Thrift Store is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The store is closed on Sundays.
