PIQUA — The Piqua Board of Education named Dwayne Thompson as the new superintendent for Piqua City Schools after returning from their executive session during their meeting on Tuesday evening.
Thompson is currently the director of curriculum and instruction for Piqua City Schools and was already set to replace Dave Larson as the assistant superintendent of Piqua City Schools after Larson submitted his resignation in February.
Thompson will now be taking over for Rick Hanes, who has been the superintendent for Piqua City Schools for the last 10 years. Hanes will be leaving his post on July 31 to be the Vice President of Business and Community Partnerships at Edison State Community College.
A former student of the district where he works, Thompson has a lengthy resume with the district, having taught at South Street, Favorite Hill and Bennett schools, before serving as principal of Favorite Hill for several years.
The Piqua Daily Call will continue to follow this story.
