Dayton man charged with trafficking heroin

MIAMI COUNTY —A Dayton man was arrested for possession and trafficking heroin by a Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol on Interstate 75 on Tuesday evening

A Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop around 10 p.m. Tuesday while on patrol on southbound I-75 near mile marker 68. The stop was for an equipment violation and driving in marked lanes. A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a small amount of marijuana and 27 caps of heroin. The backseat passenger was charged with possession of heroin, trafficking in heroin, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana. The driver received a traffic citation and was also charged with tampering with evidence. The male passenger was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail.

The backseat passenger, Dernee T. Gillis, 23, of Dayton was charged with possession of heroin, trafficking in heroin, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana. The driver received a traffic citation and was also charged with tampering with evidence. Gillis was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail. His bond was sent for $17,500 for all charges.
