TROY — One person is hospitalized following a one-vehicle accident in Miami County.

The crash took place on the 3500 block Piqua-Troy Road around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said a man was driving southbound when his Chevy pick-up truck went off the right side of the road.

The truck crashed through a utility pole, snapping it in half, before crashing through a fence. The truck rolled twice, and the man was ejected from the vehicle.

David Sloat Jr., 40, of Piqua, was the reported driver injured in this accident. Sloat reportedly was not wearing his seatbelt. He was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is currently in fair condition.

Miami County Sheriff Sgt. Randy Slusher said that speed appeared to be a factor in the crash and alcohol use is suspected. Sloat may be cited for possible traffic violations and a possible OVI charge once test results on his blood-alcohol level come back from the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab.

The crash left several people and areas without power on Wednesday morning. Several traffic lights were knocked out as well. DP&L’s website reported 78 customers in Miami County without power in the area of the crash early Wednesday morning. All of their power has since been restored.
