PIQUA — The U.S. Marshals, Piqua police, and other local law enforcement agencies apprehended a fugitive out of Detroit Thursday morning at Family Dollar.

U.S. Marshals were looking for fugitive Roy Bonam when they located him at a residence on the 200 block of Broadway. Bonam was wanted for charges of escape, assault, resisting arrest, and obstructing official business. According to Deputy Chief Marty Grove of the Piqua Police Department, the U.S. Marshals tased Bonam, but Bonam managed to flee on foot. He then ran into Family Dollar, located on High Street.

Additional personnel was requested at approximately 10 a.m. The Piqua Police Department responded along with deputies of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the K-9 unit of the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The law enforcement agencies created a perimeter around Family Dollar while they searched for the fugitive inside the business.

“He was located in the storage room,” Grove said. Bonam was then taken into custody without incident. The Piqua Fire Department also responded to scene to examine Bonam before he was transported to the Miami County Jail.

“Nobody got hurt,” Grove said. “We appreciate the cooperation of the employees and citizens.”

Grove also thanked the other law enforcement agencies for their assistance in apprehending this suspect.

“It was very labor intensive,” Grove said.

The incident ended at approximately 10:45 a.m. when the store was back open to the public.
