PIQUA — Registration is underway for Piqua City Schools’ free summer STEM, Creative Arts, and Olympic camps.

The STEM and arts camps are open to any Piqua student who has completed grades K-3. Both camps will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 6-9 and 13-16, and are limited to the first 50 students who enroll.

The STEM Camp, which will take place at Springcreek Primary School, will inspire students to use higher-order thinking skills through hands-on experiences. Students will create a circuit on paper and a battery out of potatoes using safe materials with adult help. They also will use the engineering design process to create an arcade game out of cardboard materials. To register for this camp, visit www.piqua.org/SummerReading.aspx or contact Jennifer Everett at [email protected] or (937) 773-6540, Ext. 4222.

Students participating in the Creative Arts Camp at Washington Primary School will have hands-on experience inspired by camping and nature integrated with reading, writing, art, music and math activities. Activities will include painting, singing, nature crafts, stories, and lots of campsite fun. To register, visit www.piqua.org/SummerReading.aspx or contact Shannon Pence at [email protected] or (937) 773-5472, Ext. 5012.

Open to Piqua students who have completed grades 3-5, the Olympics camp will be offered from 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:30 p.m. June 6-9 and 13-16. Like the other camps, it is limited to the first 50 students who enroll.

This camp will help students maintain and build upon their reading, writing, and math skills. Students will get time at all three academic stations and will be able to participate in a fitness station to be challenged with team activities. The theme will follow the Summer Rio Olympic Games. To register, go to www.piqua.org/SummerReading.aspx or contact Robin Phipps at [email protected] or (937) 773-0386, Ext. 3020.
