PIQUA — The Piqua-Lewis Boyer DAR Chapter sponsored local Ethan Marsh of Piqua in the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest, which is sponsored by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the Columbus Celebration Association and the National Italian American Foundation.

Marsh first was selected as the chapter winner, was then chosen as the southwest division winner and went to the state level where he won the state and was recognized at the DAR state convention in Columbus. From there he went on to the regional level of competition and won as the first place East Central Division. Next was the national level and Ethan won third place out of nine. His essay will be published in the national DAR magazine called American Spirit.

This year’s topic was “Columbus and Lindergh: A Journey Across the Atlantic.” Marsh is a freshman and attends the Great Books Program, Angelicum Academy at Marsh Home School.

Every fall students in grades ninth through 12th from public, private, parochial schools including home schooled are encouraged to participate in the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest sponsored by the local chapter. Applications may be obtained in the early fall from the school office or contacting our local Piqua-Lewis Boyer DAR Chapter or chair of the essay contest. Every year the topic changes so updated applications and guidelines must be followed.
