MIAMI COUNTY — A galaxy far, far away has finally arrived at our doorstep.

The seventh installment in the main Star Wars film series, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” will grace the big screen to fans’ delight with Thursday evening premieres at Cinemark in Piqua and Rave Cinemas Huber Heights 16. The film had a budget of approximately $200 million and was first announced to the public in November 2012.

The community is getting pumped up for the newest installment’s imminent release.

“We’ve got people getting ready,” Paul Lee, owner of Are U Game, said. “We did have a few people making costumes.”

Movie theater attendees cannot wear masks to showings anymore, but they are still able to wear other types of costumes.

“A lot of people already got their tickets,” Lee said. “Everybody’s chomping at the bit waiting for it now.”

Directed, co-produced, and co-written by J. J. Abrams, the film also stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow.

The events in the film are set approximately 30 years about the events in “Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi,” which was released in 1983. “Star Wars” was first released in 1977.

According to the Associated Press, critics — held back until early Wednesday morning — have roundly praised “The Force Awakens” as “a return to form for the franchise and a loving resurrection of the space opera.” The AP’s Lindsey Bahr said the film “is no more and no less than the movie that made us love it in the first place. In fact, it’s basically the same thing.”

The film has already sold more than $100 million worth of presale tickets.
