Piqua firefighters extinguish a mattress that had been removed from a bedroom in a duplex in the 600 block of North Main Street. Fire crews responded to a report of a possible structure fire around 4 p.m. They quickly located the source to be the mattress, and removed it from the residence before the fire could spread. Damage was confined to the bedroom although the entire residence required ventilation due to heavy smoke. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimate has been released. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly an hour. There were no injuries reported.
