PIQUA — Piqua Daily Call Sports Editor Rob Kiser will be recognized with a Southwest District Athletic Board Media Award during ceremonies at halftime of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I District Boys Basketball Finals at the Cintas Center at Xavier University on March 8.
The SWDAB Media Award was initiated by the OHSAA state office to honor distinguished members of the media. Each of the six athletic districts in the state is asked to honor two individuals each year who have demonstrated many years of service in covering high school athletics.
Kiser, a 1980 graduate of Covington High School, began his career at the Greenville Daily Advocate in 1988 before moving to the Piqua Daily Call in 1994. He was named Sports Editor in 1998. He was inducted into the Covington High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013 and has won numerous writing awards during his career.
He will join local journalists, Duane Bachman, Joe Neves and Sonny Fulks, who won the award in previous years. They are among the ranks of other notable journalists, including Omar Williams, Jack Pohl, Tom Archdeacon, among others, who have been recognized for excellence in coverage of Ohio high school athletics.
