Easter Seals Adult Day Services Piqua provides a safe, caring, home-away-from-home and person-centered program for older adults who want to maintain their independence at home and in the community. The program uses individual plans of care to provide a variety of health, social, recreational and therapeutic activities as well as supervision, support services, and in some cases, personal care.
Adults 18 years and older can benefit from Adult Day Services if they have a medical or physical disability that requires continuous monitoring. Individuals living with relatives who are absent during the day and require care and/or activity could benefit from Adult Day Services. Persons living alone in need of adequate nutrition and socialization benefit from attending the Adult Day Services Program.
If you work, raise a family and are a caregiver for a parent or grandparent, you may benefit from services provided by Easter Seals Adult Day Services Piqua. Adults with disabilities and special needs often require a safe, medically-monitored environment during the day. This type of service allows the caregiver to be at work or have some respite time, while knowing their loved one is well cared for.
The Easter Seals program offers engaging person-centered activities including, arts and crafts, intergenerational activities, music and art therapies, exercise, physical and mental stimulation, educational programming, entertainment, Wii therapy and community outings.
Recently, the Piqua program added a Brain Fitness component that offers a cognitive wellness program for adults 18 years and older with normal, mild or moderate cognitive impairment from brain injury, stroke and/or dementia. The program offers a holistic approach to enhance the mind, body and spirit. If you or a loved one would benefit from and tolerate a group setting; have the motivation to improve, have the ability to use a computer with training, have the ability to modify behavior with repetition and cueing and have reliable transportation, the Brain Fitness Program may be a perfect match. The program is only two hours long, with one hour exploring the computer and one hour of structured cognitive training activities.
The Easter Seals Adult Day Service program staff is particularly aware of the stress that the holidays can pose to caregivers and their loved ones.
Caregiving can be stressful enough without the added pressures of the holidays and it is important to recognize the symptoms of caregiver stress. The Alzheimer’s Association lists 10 symptoms of caregiver stress including denial, anger, social withdrawal, anxiety, depression, exhaustion, sleeplessness, irritability, lack of concentration and health problems. If you experience any of these signs on a regular basis, be sure to talk to your doctor about ways to make positive changes for your overall health. Another way to manage stress is to know what resources are available in your community. Ask for help and don’t try to do it all on your own. Make time for you whenever possible; whether that means scheduling a spa day or just finding quiet time to read a book. Reconnect with friends or family or find activities you use to enjoy doing and start enjoying them again.
The important thing to remember is to slow down and enjoy the holidays with family and friends. This is not the season to speed things up and miss those memories we all create each holiday season but to savor them and to start the New Year healthy and rejuvenated.
If you are a caregiver that is in need of assistance, not only during the holidays, but throughout the year, remember that Easter Seals Adult Day Services in Piqua may be the solution to help relieve the added stress of day-to-day caregiving and the holidays.
